The motorway takes you to Küssnacht, then along the shore via Weggis to Vitznau — open all year, and in the evening one of the most beautiful drives on the lake.
Since 1871 the cog railway has climbed Mount Rigi from Vitznau. If you like, take the boat to Lucerne — we pick you up there again.
The village stretches as a narrow band between the Rigi and the lake. The grand hotels sit right on the shore with their own driveways — we drive to the entrance and hand your luggage over at reception. The Rigi railway's valley station is next to the boat pier, both in the village centre; the cog railway climbs all the way to Rigi Kulm, the summit at 1797 metres.
Beyond Vitznau the lakeside road continues via Gersau to Brunnen — one of the quietest routes on Lake Lucerne. In summer the paddle steamers call at the village pier; in winter Vitznau is a peaceful retreat facing the Bürgenstock across the water.
