From Zurich Airport you reach the Rhine Falls in about 40 minutes. We stop either on the Laufen Castle side or in Neuhausen.
From Laufen Castle paths lead right down to the water; in summer boats go out to the rock in the middle. Allow one to two hours for your visit.
The Rhine Falls have two sides: on the south bank is Schloss Laufen with steps and platforms down to the water, on the north bank Neuhausen with the riverside and the boat landings. We stop on the side you want to visit and, on request, collect you on the other.
The Rhine carries the most water in early summer, when the snow melts in the Alps — that is when the falls are most impressive. On 1 August, Swiss National Day, they are lit up by a large fireworks display; the roads are very busy that evening, so booking early pays off.
